Let's talk selection process
While we can’t guarantee everyone a spot, we can promise that every submission will be reviewed and considered fairly.
Who?
The selection committee is made up of local improvisers who have either been producing shows over the past year and/or represent different improv communities in our city. They have been selected by the co-directors and/or committee team leaders. The selection committee members will remain anonymous.
A least three selection committee members will be assigned to each OIF submission for review. A committee member may not review any submissions where there is a reasonable conflict of interest, such as reviewing their own team or the team of their spouse, etc.
How?
With guidance from the co-directors, the selection committee has created an objective evaluation form to review the application forms and performance videos. Submissions will be evaluated based on how well they meet the festival’s goals (above) and values (below). Extra consideration will be given to submissions that meet the festival’s goals and also represent historically marginalized communities.

The selection committee will then present a short list of their top choices to the co-directors. The co-directors will make the final decision based on scheduling for time and a variety of acts, in line with the festival’s goals and values.

The number of performance slots will be determined after submissions have been received and reviewed. Therefore, the number of performance slots may depend on the show duration of the selection committee’s top picks.
When?
Whether you have or have not been selected to perform at this year's OIF, we will get back to all applicants by early April.

-
Learning!
As we are considering many factors in the selection for this festival, depending on submissions, not all teams will be selected to perform.
We want everyone submitting to know that we value your time, effort and contribution to the improv community! If you do not get selected, this is NOT a reflection of your value or contribution to improv in this community. All submissions are valued and considered with care. We have a limited number of spots and a large pool of local and out-of-town talent. It may simply come down to scheduling and trying to offer as much variety, unique performances and learning opportunities as possible.
Please also note, the co-directors and OIF committee members will not accept or respond to any messages deemed harassing from any applicants. Due to limited time and resources, we are not able to provide feedback on your submission.
