VAPAPO: Character toolkit
with Jill Bernard
Saturday, March 16
10am-1pm
Jill Bernard offers a character toolkit to give participants the ability to create strong, compelling characters that they can hang onto through the whole scene. This session will focus on using Voice, Attitude or Posture, and Animal, Prop or Obsession to build instant characters. Participants will use these tools to fearlessly initiate scenes, create relationships and find agreement.
Solo improv
with Jill Bernard
Saturday, March 16
2-5pm
SOLD OUT - WAITLIST ONLY
There are no "schools" of improv - we are each our own school, which means your solo piece is the ultimate expression of that school. Work with Jill to practice the skills that are universal to most solo pieces - character snapping, stage pictures, and aggressive choices - and also tease out what will make your solo piece unique.
Comedy Writing for Sketch (& a Thought Towards Narrative)
with Becky Johnson
Saturday, March 16
10am-5pm
SOLD OUT - WAITLIST ONLY
In this one-day intensive, we will explore approaches to sketch comedy writing through improvisational writing techniques, structure, message and more! The day will simulate parts of the process of being in a professional television writer's room (but a nice one). We will tackle pitching, premise generation and refinement, group writing, format, shape, style and exercises to flesh out participants' unique comedic voices. Leave with potential material to get your sketch writing package together or at least some new tools to attack it!
